In the summer between my second and third years of university, I was able to join design team at Framestore, to work on a series of commercials for a range of Lenovo products. These ads were quite unique, in that each frame, the environment the product flies through was 3D printed. On set, a stop-motion animator had animated a piece of black plastic to represent the product interacting with the scenery. My role was to clean up the CAD and UV the product. I also got to do some animation, aligning the CG product over the back plate and matching the piece of plastic that had been animated on set. So that our CG products would maintain that stop motion look. I mostly worked on these three ads, but I also made a start on another few in the same style, before I had to head back to uni.
